What you stop worrying about

Three things go wrong with most tile jobs. Here's how we handle each one.

Turnkey 01

Coordinating multiple trades

We handle everything: demolition, disposal, substrate prep, waterproofing, drywall, tile installation, and grouting. You hire one team. You make one call.

Waterproofing 02

Shower leaks and water damage

We do waterproofing in-house on every wet area — Schluter membrane systems, installed by the same crew that lays your tile. No subcontractors means no gaps in accountability.

Epoxy grout 03

Grout that stains, cracks, and grows mold

We use epoxy grout as our standard. It costs more. It takes more skill to apply. But it won't absorb water, won't stain, won't crack, and won't need resealing.

What we do

Every service includes demolition, prep, waterproofing where needed, and epoxy grout.

Tile installation

Floor, wall, and large-format porcelain. DITRA membrane on every concrete slab.

Bathroom tile & waterproofing

Full waterproofing in-house. No subcontractors on wet areas. Ever.

Kitchen backsplash

Subway, mosaic, marble, glass. Installed in 1–2 days, minimal disruption.

Stone fireplace & surround

Natural stone, manufactured veneer, Rundle stone. Full builds and refacing.

Heated floor installation

Electric mat systems under tile. Calgary winters and cold tile don't mix.

Tile repair & regrout

Cracked tiles, failing grout, water damage. We fix what others walk away from.

We also offer professional wallpaper installation.

The hard work most installers avoid

Anyone can lay a straight row of 12×12 tile. These are the jobs that separate a craftsman from a guy with a trowel.

Large-format tile

24×24 and bigger is unforgiving. One low spot in the floor shows as lippage you can feel with bare feet. We level the substrate properly and back-butter every tile.

Mitered edges

Two tiles meeting at a 90° corner with no metal trim — cut at a perfect 45°. It looks seamless. It takes patience and a steady hand to get right.

Vein-matched stone

Marble and travertine come alive when the veining flows across plates. We dry-lay and book-match natural stone before a drop of mortar goes down.

Bulletproof waterproofing

The work you never see — proper slope to the drain, sealed corners, membrane done right. It's why our showers don't leak in year three.

The part you never see

Most of what makes tile last happens before the first tile goes down — and after the last one. Here's the work behind the finish.

Substrate preparation and levelling STEP 01

Substrate prep & levelling

A flat base is everything. We grind, patch, and level before anything else.

Schluter Kerdi waterproofing membrane installation STEP 02

Waterproofing membrane

Schluter Kerdi sealed at every corner and seam. This is what keeps water out of your walls.

DITRA uncoupling membrane over concrete slab STEP 03

Uncoupling membrane (DITRA)

Over concrete slabs, DITRA absorbs movement so your tile doesn't crack with Calgary's frost heave.

Tile levelling clips and spacers STEP 04

Levelling clips & spacers

Every tile set with clips for a dead-flat surface — no lippage you can feel underfoot.

Precision tile cuts and layout STEP 05

Precision cuts & layout

Mitered edges, outlet cutouts, niche framing — measured twice, cut once.

Epoxy grout application and clean-up STEP 06

Epoxy grout & clean-up

Worked in fast, cleaned before it sets, and a final walkthrough before we leave.

Why we use epoxy grout
on every job

Most installers use cement-based grout. It's cheaper and easier to work with. We stopped using it over a decade ago.

Cement grout is porous. It absorbs water, coffee, wine — anything that touches it. Within a year, it stains. Within two, it cracks. In a shower, it grows mold inside the pores. You end up regrouting every 3–5 years, or living with grout that looks dirty no matter how hard you scrub.

Epoxy vs. cement grout

Epoxy Cement
Water absorption Zero High
Stain resistance Complete Poor
Mold growth Not possible Common
Resealing needed Never Every 1–2 yrs
Cracking Extremely rare Common
Lifespan 20+ years 3–7 years

The Vital Tile installation crew on a Calgary job site

20 years. One trade.
Done right.

We've spent two decades doing one thing: installing tile and stone. Not selling cabinets. Not doing plumbing. Not subcontracting the hard parts. When you hire Vital Tile, you get the same crew from the first swing of the hammer to the final wipe of epoxy grout.

We know what works in Calgary homes — which membranes handle frost heave, which grout survives dry winters, and why your basement slab needs an uncoupling system before any tile goes down.

We don't cut corners on materials and we don't rush through prep work. That's the only way tile lasts 20 years instead of 5.

Common questions

Standard porcelain floor tile typically runs $8–$14 per square foot installed in Calgary. Final cost depends on tile type, area size, and prep work needed. We provide a detailed written quote after measuring your space — no ballpark guesses over email.
Epoxy grout is a two-part resin-based grout that does not absorb water, stain, crack, or grow mold. Unlike cement grout, it never needs resealing and lasts 20+ years. We switched to it over a decade ago because we got tired of callbacks for grout problems that shouldn't exist.
Yes — we remove old tile, repair or level the substrate, install waterproofing membranes, and do drywall work. One team from start to finish, so you don't need to coordinate multiple trades. Demolition and disposal are included in every quote.
Yes — every shower and wet area we tile gets full Schluter Kerdi (or equivalent) waterproofing membrane, installed by our own crew, never a subcontractor. A failed shower waterproofing costs $15,000–$40,000 to remediate, so we make sure that doesn't happen.
We serve Calgary and surrounding Alberta communities: all four Calgary quadrants (NW, NE, SW, SE), Airdrie, Cochrane, Okotoks, Chestermere, Canmore, and Bragg Creek. If you're unsure whether we cover your area, contact us — we may travel further for larger projects.
Most projects fall between 1 and 10 working days. A kitchen backsplash takes 1–2 days, a bathroom floor 2–3 days, a full bathroom renovation (demo to grout) 5–10 days, and a stone fireplace surround 3–5 days. We give you a timeline with your quote and we stick to it.
Cement grout is porous and needs resealing every 1–2 years; epoxy grout is fully impermeable and never needs resealing. Cement absorbs water, coffee, and wine — within a year it stains, within two it cracks, and in showers it grows mold inside the pores. Epoxy resists all of this and typically lasts 20+ years versus 3–7 years for cement grout.
A properly installed Schluter Kerdi membrane is engineered to last the lifetime of the tile installation — 20+ years is normal. Failures almost always come from incorrect installation, missed transitions, or substituting cheaper membranes. We install the full Schluter system end-to-end, so the membrane, sealant, and drain assembly are tested as a single waterproof envelope.
For bathrooms and tiled entryways in Calgary, yes — electric in-floor mat systems are inexpensive to run and dramatically improve comfort on tile during the cold half of the year. A typical bathroom mat adds about $400–$800 to material cost and takes us under a day to install during a tile project. Once it's in, it's the most-used upgrade clients tell us they never regret.
Yes, but every concrete slab gets a Schluter DITRA uncoupling membrane installed first. Calgary's freeze-thaw cycle and drying winters cause concrete to move enough to crack tile bonded directly to the slab. DITRA decouples the tile from those movements and is non-negotiable on every basement floor we tile.
